A 53-year-old woman died Nov. 16 after she was hit by a car while she walked along an Ellendale road.
Police have identified the woman as Jacqueline Jenkins.
Jenkins was walking at 10:48 p.m. along Route 213 when she was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Route 213 north or Robbins Road, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police. Jenkins was struck by the vehicle’s right side mirror and possibly the front headlight, and the impact propelled her onto a grassy section alongside the road.
Jenkins was wearing dark clothing and she was not carrying a flashlight, Jaffe said. The unknown vehicle fled the scene driving northbound.
Jenkins was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
South Old State Road north of Robbins Road was shut down for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate this incident and asks anyone with information to contact Master Cpl. J. Burns at 703-3266, Delaware CrimeStoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
