Women’s Club of Milton donates to the Shepherd’s Office

In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, members of the Women’s Club of Milton decided to organize a clothing collection drive.

Club Executive Secretary Diane Bitterle volunteered to organize the initiative. She contacted Jim Martin, director of the Shepherd’s Office, to find out what the organization might need in upcoming months.

With Martin’s suggestions in mind, club members generously donated new flashlights, batteries and new winter clothing such as socks, gloves, hats and scarves to help those in need stay warm. All items were delivered to the Shepherd’s Office Jan. 18. One volunteer, Phil Troyes, peeked into a bag of clothing and pulled out a new pair of gloves. He said he had just given out their last pair and was so happy to receive a fresh supply to give to more people who need them. The Shepherd’s Office had plans to distribute the new clothing that evening during dinner.

The Shepherd’s Office is a nonprofit located in Georgetown. It provides food, clothing, and counseling services to people in need.

The Women's Club of Milton is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, one of the world’s oldest and largest women's service organizations dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service.
