Yadira M. Mercado (Mrs. Ramos), devoted to family

October 13, 2021

Yadira M. Mercado (Mrs. Ramos) of Dover passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at the Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover.

She was a beloved mother, aunt, cousin, godmother and friend, and will be well remembered and loved by so many. Born Jan. 22, 1969, in Rio Piedras, P.R., she grew up in beautiful, tropical Puerto Rico with her parents and two siblings. After marrying her true love, Luis Jorge, in 1996, they relocated from Puerto Rico to Delaware in 2000. She was a devoted housewife and reveled in raising her two daughters. She was always involved in all their activities and could always be found on the sidelines cheering them on and went above and beyond to make sure they knew they were well loved and supported in everything they did and ever will do.

In between having her daughters, Yadira taught Spanish at Holy Cross for about two years. She adored children and treated every single student as her own. Mrs. Ramos absolutely loved spending time with her family and friends, enjoyed traveling, was an avid music lover, a fierce Yankees fan and cooked amazing Puerto Rican dishes. One of her favorite places to visit was New York, where she loved going to Broadway shows, visiting family, attending Yankees games at Yankee Stadium, and taking in views of the city.

During the summers, she would love to plan a family trip to Hershey Park to enjoy summer vacation. Mrs. Ramos loved going out and taking adventures to different locations during the weekends with her husband and daughters. She would always stand out from the crowd with her impeccable sense of style, making sure to accessorize with lots of jewelry and colorful makeup looks. You could find her cooking for her family at home while singing and dancing to ‘80s pop and Salsa. Her favorite hobby was interior and exterior design. She loved her house so much, she made sure her house was fully decorated, especially for the holidays, and enjoyed showcasing her masterpiece with friends and relatives.

But by far her favorite pastime was spending time with loved ones and taking pictures and videos to capture the beautiful family moments filled with lots of smiles and love. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh, amazing food, and for all the love and happiness she spread everywhere.

Yadira is survived by her mother, Miriam Cortes-Gonzalez; her husband of 25 years Luis Jorge Ramos; her two children, Yadiana Ramos and Yanialis Ramos; her older brother Felix Mercado-Cortes; her younger sister Yanila Mercado-Cortes; and her cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Felix Mercado-Cruz.

Yadira was a fighter and had a strong faith in God and worked on her relationship with him daily even during her toughest moments. She believed in the power of prayer and was a devoted Catholic. She always wanted to help others and was blessed to have been able to lend a hand in more ways than she knew. We draw comfort knowing she is at home with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 18, at The Church of The Holy Cross, 631 S. State St., Dover. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 17, at The Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.
