Zwaanendael Museum to host A Sailor’s Life for Me May 25

Eighth annual Maritime Celebration in Lewes

Adults and children alike will have an opportunity to experience seafaring lives of adventure, romance, excitement and hardships, and to honor mariners who made the ultimate sacrifice, during the Zwaanendael Museum's eighth annual Maritime Celebration, A Sailor's Life for Me, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 25, at the Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes. 

There will be displays and demonstrations on local maritime history. Historical interpreter Dennis Fisher will portray Commodore Jacob Jones, one of Delaware’s heroes of the War of 1812, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Admission is free and open to the public. 

Maritime-themed lectures will be held on the museum’s second floor, with entry via staircase only, no elevator. Author and historian Michael Morgan will present Perils Afloat at 11 a.m. Author and retired U.S. Navy Capt. Bill Manthorpe will present American Naval Ships Named Delaware at 2 p.m.
