‘Dear Santa’ opening at Cinema Art Theater Dec. 4

December 2, 2020

Starting Friday, Dec. 4, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Dear Santa,” an inspiring documentary that captures the warmth and spirit of the holiday season through a 100-year-old tradition.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of letters to Santa arrive at post offices around the country. Through Operation Santa, the United States Postal Service makes it possible for the public to safely adopt these letters and make children’s dreams come true. “Dear Santa” invites audiences along for the magic of this massive endeavor. Traveling the country, much like Santa does on Christmas Eve, the film focuses on select Operation Santa Centers: some in metropolitan areas like the massive operation in New York City and others in small towns where the post office is the heart of the community. The film highlights letters where a child is asking for something poignant, something that goes beyond the common wish for a toy. This timeless documentary provokes audiences throughout the world to ask themselves how they can make the world a better place, one gesture at a time.

Screening times are 3 and 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4; 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5; 3:45 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 6; 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9; and 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 10. Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online at rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
