‘One Night in Miami’ to open Jan. 8

January 6, 2021

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “One Night in Miami,” starting Friday, Jan. 8. The film is a fictional drama about an incredible night when four famous men meet.

On the night of Feb. 25, 1964, in Miami, real-life friends Cassius Clay, Jim Brown, Sam Cooke and Malcom X gather to celebrate Clay’s win over Sonny Liston, which makes him the heavyweight champion of the world. After a lot of banter and fun, they soon root down to the hard questions facing them. Should successful Black entertainers speak out against racism? How best can Black celebrities serve the Black community? Are money and fame reward enough for humiliation? The men attack these conversations with the urgency, depth and humor that the subject still demands.

Screening times are 3 and 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 8; 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 9; 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 10; 1 and 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13; and 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14. Admission is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online at rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
