‘Spencer’ and ‘Bendetta’ films to open at Cinema Art Theater Dec. 3

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater, starting Friday, Dec. 3, will present “Spencer,” a fascinating biographical and psychological drama that captures the spirit of Buckingham Palace’s most rebellious daughter-in-law.

The marriage of Princess Diana, played by Kristen Stewart, and Prince Charles has long since grown cold. Though rumors of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. But this year, things will be a whole lot different. “Spencer” is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.

Also opening Dec. 3 will be “Bendetta,” an intriguing biographical drama about a 17th century novice nun who has a forbidden love affair.

“Bendetta” is based on historian Judith C. Brown's 1986 book, “Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy,” which covers the controversy surrounding the life of Benedetta Carlini, an Italian nun who allegedly experienced intense spiritual visions and stigmata. Virginie Efira stars as the titular nun who pushes both religious and sexual boundaries, raising questions within her convent.
