Beacon defeats Mariner in Cape District wrestling matchup

The Beacon Middle School wrestling team grappled to a 59-26 win over district rival Mariner Dec. 20 at Cape Henlopen High School.

A win for Beacon came from Tajear Freeman by forfeit in the 82-pound class, while winning by win were Luke Bender (94), CJ Fritchman (100), Mikey Frederick (106), Carson Kammerer (112), Mereck Harrigan-Ferro (124), Kevin Leonard (170) and Lucas Ruppert (250). Dalton Deevey won by tech fall in the 145 class, and Jordan Baines won by forfeit in the 155 class.

Mariner wins came from Holt Baker with a tech fall in the 76-pound class, Josh Wright by pin in the 88 class, George Delgaudio by pin at 118 pounds, Jermaine Hinton by decision in the 130 class, Daniel Saez by decision at 136 pounds and Malaki Lewis by major decision in the 185 class.

Mariner will travel to Smyrna for a match Wednesday, Jan. 3, to face the Eagles, while Beacon will wrestle the Knights at Millsboro Middle the same night.
