UNICO National scholarship applications due April 15 

UNICO National announced four $6,000 scholarships are available for high school students. There are also scholarship opportunities for students who are initiating graduate studies, pursuing a medical doctor or doctor of osteopathy degree, or attending a nursing program; for those currently in a college or graduate school; and for students attending California Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology or the University of Arizona, Tucson. Scholarship applications due to Women’s Club of Milton April 18

The Women’s Club of Milton will be awarding two $2,000 scholarships to eligible high school seniors in the local area. Scholarship eligibility is based on the following criteria: female, college-bound student with academic achievement of at least a 3.0 GPA; participation in extracurricular activities as well as community or faith-related service; and a student must reside in the 19941, 19951, 19960 or 19968 ZIP code area.

Scholarship applications may be obtained from guidance counselors at Cape Henlopen, Sussex Central, Sussex Tech, Delmarva Christian and Milford Christian high schools.

Applications should be turned in to high school guidance counselors no later than Thursday, April 18.

All applications will be reviewed by the seven-member WCOM scholarship committee. Scholarship award winners will be announced at the recipients’ school senior awards ceremonies.

 Scholarship funding is provided through fundraising events sponsored by the Women’s Club of Milton such as the holiday house tour, holly festival bake sale and 50/50 raffles. The WCOM is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, one of the world's oldest and largest service organizations dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service. 

Milford Garden Club scholarship applications due April 26

The Milford Garden Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior residing in Kent or Sussex county. The scholarship will be awarded to a student planning on pursuing studies in horticulture, landscape design, forestry, environmental studies or a related field. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 26. For more information or to request an application, contact Leona Langone, 302-422-8070 or

Lewes student earns master’s degree from Boston University 

Boston University announced that Margaret D. Wilson of Lewes received a master of public health degree in monitoring and evaluation.

Lewes student graduates from Bloomsburg University

Ryan Faust of Lewes was awarded a bachelor of science degree in medical imaging from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Dec. 14.

Lewes student named to University of Alabama dean's list

Sydney Lane Boright of Lewes was named to the University of Alabama dean's list for fall 2018. To be eligible, a student must have earned a 3.5 average or above.

Milton student named to University of Findlay dean’s list

Emma Spellman of Milton was named to the fall 2018 dean's list at the University of Findlay. To earn this achievement, a student must attain a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Local students named to Alvernia University dean’s list

Alvernia University announced its dean's list for the fall 2018 semester. Local students honored include Tyzhir Morris of Millsboro, a freshman majoring in early childhood education; and Riley Shields of Lewes, a junior majoring in occupational therapy. To be eligible, students must carry a semester GPA of 3.5 or better and take a minimum of 12 credits.

Millsboro student earns faculty honors at Georgia Tech

Brittany Ritter of Millsboro earned faculty honors for fall 2018 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have a 4.0 academic average for the semester.

Lewes student named to fall dean's list at University of the Sciences

Jinal Patel of Lewes has been named to the fall 2018 dean'slist at University of the Sciences. To be eligible, a student must achieve at least a 3.4 grade point average for fall courses. Patel is a pharmacology and toxicology student.

Rehoboth Beach student named to dean’s list at Seton Hall University

Seton Hall University announced that Sean Davis of Rehoboth Beach has qualified for the fall 2018 dean's list. To be eligible, a student must have completed all courses with a GPA of 3.4 or above.

Milton students earn honors at Gettysburg College 

Gettysburg College students whose semester averages were 3.6 or above were recently placed on the dean's honor list. Local students include Alec Shalk of Milton and Dorothy Vosik of Milton.

Students with semester averages of 3.3 to 3.59 are placed on the deans' commendation list; Nicholas Barrish of Milton was so honored.

Lewes student inducted into honor society at St. Vincent College 

St. Vincent College inducted 122 new members into its chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, an international honor society for first-year students with outstanding academic achievement. Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be considered for membership. Newly inducted students include Antonia DeBastiani of Lewes, a freshman mathematics and engineering major.
