Long Neck Sunrise Rotary golf event nets $24K for charity

July 21, 2019

It was a hot but beautiful day June 7 for Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club’s 10th Annual Charity Golf Outing at the Peninsula on the Indian River Bay. Predicted showers held off for a few sprinkles as the last foursome was finishing its final hole.

This signature event is the club’s main fundraising function, and all proceeds are used to support Rotary’s Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, Oak Orchard Boys & Girls Club, Long Neck-area youth programs and organizations, and the greater Long Neck community with projects and programs to foster growth and improve quality of life.

This year the tournament netted approximately $24,000 from event sponsors and 116 golfers. The tournament included a $5,000 putting contest sponsored by Eric Blondin of State Farm Insurance. Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club incoming President John Berner won the initial $180 putting prize but failed by a fraction of an inch on the putt for the $5,000.

The first-place team with a score of 57 for the scramble-style tournament play included Steve Grossman/Chris Mancini, Austin Auen, Dan Vanda and Lisa Grossman. This team represented Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club and therefore also won the Traveling Trophy for the No. 1 Rotary Team.

On-course competitions include four holes in one sponsored by Terry Megee of Megee Motors with no winners this year. The day was capped by a gourmet dinner at the Peninsula.

Long Neck Sunrise Rotary meets at 7:30 a.m. Tuesdays for breakfast at the Ocean Grill II on Long Neck Road. Visitors and prospective members are always welcome.
