American Heart Association recognizes Beebe Healthcare
Beebe Healthcare Emergency Department Dr. Kevin Bristowe says a good working relationship with Sussex County EMS can save lives.
It’s particularly important when they are called for possible strokes and heart attacks, he said. EMS personnel perform EKGs and begin to diagnose the problem en route to the hospital, saving time for emergency department staff, he said.
Minutes matter, he said. A quicker response may reduce long term effects.
It’s because of the strong partnership that Beebe was recently honored by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association with four awards.
“[Beebe] really puts our research and best practices into play on a daily basis to achieve incredible standards and truly save lives,” said David Morris, executive director of the Delaware Chapter of AHA/ASA.
Rick Schaffner, interim president and CEO of Beebe, praised the partnership between EMS, the emergency department and other specialty units.
“I think this is a tremendous honor for us and continues to show our forward progress and our teamwork across our organization,” he said.
Beebe received three Get With The Guidelines awards and one Mission award:
Resuscitation Silver Award - Recognizes Beebe for improved measures for patients who suffer cardiac arrests in the hospital.
Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award - Recognizes Beebe’s implementing nationally recognized, researched-based guidelines for heart failure patients.
Stroke Honor Roll Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award - Recognizes Beebe’s efforts to use up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines for stroke patients with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability.
Silver Receiving Quality Achievement Award - Beebe met specific criteria and standards of performance for quick and appropriate treatment through emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries in heart attack patients coming into the hospital directly or by transfer from another facility.
