Browseabout Books donates to Cape Bookmobile

October 5, 2019

For the seventh summer, the Cape Henlopen Bookmobile made its rounds throughout the district delivering books to students. Over a five-week timespan, the bookmobile traveled three days a week to high need neighborhoods in the district, and handed out books to students.

Principals, staff volunteers, the Cape Readiness Team and community member volunteers passed out a variety of books for students ranging in age from birth to middle school. Browseabout Books in Rehoboth once again graciously donated new books for volunteers to hand out.

“This is now the third summer that Browseabout has donated books to our bookmobile,” said Donna Kolakowski, supervisor of elementary education. “Many of our students look forward to receiving new books throughout the month of July and the first half of August, and we’re certain that, without the annual generosity that Browseabout Books has shown, we wouldn’t be able to provide as many books to as many children as we do.” This summer, the bookmobile made five trips to 11 different communities throughout th Rehoboth, Lewes and Milton areas.

“We’re grateful for the donation from Browseabout and we also realize that without the dedication of our volunteers on the Community Readiness Team and the Summer Food Service Program volunteers, none of this would be possible,” continued Kolakowski. “Everyone took time out of their busy summer schedules to not only to provide meals to children in need, but to hand out 1,758 books.”

The Cape Bookmobile collects new and lightly used books throughout the school year in both English and Spanish. If interested in making a donation or volunteering for future bookmobile deliveries, contact Kolakowski at donna.kolakowski@cape.k12.de.us.
