John ‘Jack’ W. Shifflette, master carpenter

January 13, 2020

John "Jack" W. Shifflette, 81, of Lewes passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, at his home.  He was born May 5, 1938, in Washington, D.C., son of the late Agnes (Dolan) Shifflette.

Jack attended the Linton Hall Military School in Bristow, Va.  He built a career as a master carpenter, retiring in 2001 after 55 dedicated years.  Jack's interests were many and varied.  He enjoyed classic cars, hot rods and Harley-Davidsons, and frequenting estate sales, auctions and flea markets, as well as going to the Movies at Midway, reading and playing cards.  Jack loved carpentry and found great joy in restoring old homes.  Above all, Jack cherished time spent with those he held most dear.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother; his brother; and his sister.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Ruth Ann Shifflette of Lewes;  his son, John Carl Shifflette of Lewes;  his daughters:  Lara Estelle Hill (Kurt) of Lewes,  and Christina Lynne Shifflette (Cortez McDaniel) of Washington, D.C.; his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren;  his nephew, Bob Campbell (Lois); and many extended family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m., at the Inn at Canal Square, 122 West Market St., Lewes.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Compassionate Care Hospice and his attending nurse, MaeBeth Oberholtzer.
