Local author Corinne Litzenberg at Lewes Gifts Feb. 15

To sign her coastal-themed books
February 13, 2020

Author Corinne Litzenberg will be at Lewes Gifts, 118 Second St. in downtown Lewes from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, signing many of her coastal-themed books. “S is for Sea Glass” has been an extremely popular book at both of Micha Seto’s gift shops, Lewes Gifts and Bayside Gifts in Long Neck, since its release. Litzenberg will also bring other popular tales she’s written, including “The Sand Lady: A Cape May Tale” to the signing event Saturday.

Litzenberg takes on a crucial but often avoided topic in her just-released new children’s book, “Ice Cream Cones and Heart Stones: A Child’s Grief Journey.”

“This book is a resource,” Litzenberg said. “Sooner or later, adults have to talk about this with their child. It’s a subtle approach to bringing up loss and death.”

Litzenberg, a graduate of the Tome School, University of Delaware, Loyola College and Wilmington University with a doctorate in environmental education, has written an array of children’s books regarding the natural world and its wonders. But after she and her husband lost their son, Todd, in 2017, the retired teacher and author decided to integrate her environmental background with her experience of grief.

In this new semi-fictionalized tale, a child’s journey with her grandfather is captured from happiness to hurting, and finally healing. The book also features questions for parents and eight techniques that can help children navigate the grieving process.
