Boys & Girls Clubs expands college readiness program

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Navient announced the launch of a new digital program to help teens and their families learn about financial aid and how to pay for college. The college and career planning process can be daunting, especially for first-generation college students. That’s why Navient partnered with BGCA to expand upon Diplomas to Degrees, BGCA’s well-established college readiness program, to guide high schoolers through their postsecondary education and career planning journeys. Boys & Girl Clubs of America reaches 4.3 million young people, and Diplomas to Degrees is available to all Boys & Girls Club members across the 4,600 clubs nationwide. Unitarian Universalists to meet Nov. 28

Camelot Meadows craft fair registration due Nov. 30

The Camelot Meadows Holiday Craft Fair is seeking local crafters and artists to participate in the event set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Camelot Meadows Community Center, 36199 Palace Lane, Rehoboth Beach. This is an opportunity for local crafters and artists to share their talents and for community members to purchase homemade, handmade, one-of-a-kind and made-in-the-USA gifts for the holidays. All proceeds from table spaces will benefit the Delaware Manufactured Home Owners Association fund to help manufactured home owners who do not qualify for other assistance programs. Spaces are limited and the cost is $35. Table rental is an additional $10. All spaces must be paid for and reserved by Tuesday, Nov. 30. Cash, PayPal and Venmo are all accepted. Kids clothing donation drive runs through Nov. 30

Clothing Our Kids is holding a fall clothing drive to improve the lives of Sussex County kids in need. New clothing in sizes 3T to youth 18/20 may be dropped off at the Georgetown Public Library through Tuesday, Nov. 30. Items needed include shirts, pants, shorts, skirts, pajamas, underwear, socks, shoes, coats, hoodies, hats and gloves. To learn more, go to clothingourkids.org.

Giant Long Neck bag purchases support CHEER in November

CHEER Foundation has been selected by the local Giant Food store leadership as the nonprofit to benefit from its community bag program. During the month of November, the foundation will receive a $1 donation from each purchase of the $2.50 reusable community bag at the Giant Food store located at 25939 John J. Williams Hwy., Long Neck. This program makes it easy for shoppers to give back to their local community while supporting the environment. The CHEER program serves senior citizens in Sussex County through a wide array of programs, including nutrition, transportation, activity centers and more.

IRHS Hall of Fame nominations due Dec. 1

The Indian River High School Hall of Fame continues to honor alumni who make outstanding achievements in this community and world. The nomination deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 1, for the 2021-22 Hall of Fame induction. The selection committee is looking for graduates who show great character, citizenship and leadership, and who have made significant contributions in their field and community. The nominee must have graduated from Indian River High School at least 10 years prior to the nomination. The candidates will be evaluated on achievements and recognition in their chosen fields. Today’s students are following in great footsteps. Previous inductees include educators, legislators, artists, civic leaders, athletes, first responders and more. They’ve come from as near as Dagsboro and far as Texas and Michigan. The ideal candidate would be considered a role model whose life and work will inspire Indian River students in the pursuit of excellence. Download nomination forms at IRHSAlumni.com.
