Rehoboth Beach home heavily damaged by fire

July 11, 2022

A Rehoboth Beach home was heavily damaged July 11 by a fire that took firefighters two hours to extinguish.

The blaze was reported at 1:50 a.m. on Fir Drive Extended in the Piney Glade neighborhood, said Kent Swarts, spokesman for the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co.

Rehoboth Beach firefighters were assisted by Lewes firefighters to bring the blaze under control in about a half-hour. Crews remained on the scene for two hours to extinguish the fire and clean up, Swarts said.

No one was in the house at the time of the fire. One firefighter from Rehoboth Beach was treated by Sussex County Emergency Medical Services and transported by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare with possible heat exhaustion.

Units from Bethany Beach, Milton and Georgetown fire companies provided coverage for the Rehoboth Beach and Lewes areas during the fire.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
