Lewes Library to host Creative Writers' Conference Aug. 17

The Sixth Annual Lewes Creative Writers’ Conference will be held at the Lewes Public Library from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17. Workshops on a variety of writing-related topics will be held throughout the day. The Lewes Creative Writers’ Conference is sponsored by the Lewes Public Library, the National League of American Pen Women, Diamond Branch, The Delaware Division of Libraries, The Delaware Division of the Arts and the Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild.

There are two morning sessions. Workshops offered during the first morning session include Writing Winning Short Stories, Keeping Your Plot Moving, and Master Writers Workshop, a small group session. Workshops offered during the second morning session include What Reading Poetry Can Teach You About Writing Poetry, Comedy Writing: Transforming Pain Into Laughter and Poetry Writing, a small group session. This poetry workshop will be led by Delaware Poet Laureate, JoAnn Balingit.

Following a lunch break where attendees can attend a lunchtime chat offered by the Delaware Division of the Arts or listen to readings by workshop presenters, there is an afternoon session with four workshop choices. These include Flash Fiction, Panel Discussion: Getting Published Ain’t Like it Used to Be, Writing for Young Adults and Poetry Writing (small group session).

Space is limited in the three small group sessions, Master Writers Workshop and the two Poetry Writing workshops, and prior submission of materials is required by July 15. Submission requirements can be found with the registration materials online or at the Library.
