George M. Blades, retired sheet metal worker

George McClellan Blades, 91, of Dagsboro, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2013, peacefully at Atlantic General Hospital in Maryland. He was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Baltimore, Md. to Norman B. Blades and Bessie L. Shade (nee) Blades. He was married for 65 years to the late Katherine L. Wolf Blades, whom he called his Beautiful Bride.

George served in the U.S. Navy for four years during World War II. After serving his country, he was a sheet metal worker until his retirement in 1982. He was a past commander of VFW Post 7234 in Ocean View.

George enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending lots of time with all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his best friend for 13 years, his dog Beau.

George is survived by two of his six siblings: his sisters Nancy Jane Ritz of Baltimore and Jennie Mae Eder of Baltimore. He is also survived by his seven children: Norman W. Blades and Kathy of Orange, Calif., Timothy M. Blades and Vikki of Millsboro, Michael G. Blades and Nadine of Dagsboro, Stephen N. Blades and Connie of Williamsville, Dennis J. Blades and Karen of Frankford, M. Susan Knox and Roger of Millville, and Patricia A. Blades and Carl of Millsboro. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 18, at 11:30 a.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St. in Frankford, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro
