Bethany man dies in crash

A 27-year-old Bethany Beach man died in a single-vehicle crash on Pyle Center Road May 16.
The crash occurred at 9:19 p.m. as Scott Maxwell drove a 2007 Honda Civic traveled north on the road, north of the intersection with Frankford School Road. Police said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and moved into the southbound lane after navigating a slight left curve in the road.
In an apparent attempt to return to the northbound lane, Maxwell turned sharply to the right and lost control of the vehicle. It rotated clockwise while traveling northward, and left the right side of the roadway. The vehicle continued traveling north and struck and severed a utility pole.
Maxwell died at the scene. He was properly restrained at the time of the crash and his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
