Annie 'Betty' LeCates, worked in security

Annie "Betty" LeCates, 88, of Delmar, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at Milford Center, surrounded by her granddaughters. She was born in Seaford, Monday, Oct. 24, 1927, daughter of the late Hildred and Gertrude (Hitchens) Thomas.

Mrs. LeCates had a lifelong career working in security for various agencies including Bennett Security in Salisbury, Md., from which she retired. She was an avid gardener, animal lover and will be remembered for her amazing cooking by those lucky enough to dine in her kitchen.

Mrs. LeCates was always outspoken, jovial and made everyone smile and feel loved. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and a dear friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. LeCates was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norval W. LeCates Sr. in 2008; her daughter, Joyce L. Harris in 2005; her grandson, Norval "Trey" W. LeCates III in 2007; and her two sisters: Hazel Mae Johnson and Helen Louise Collins.

She is survived by her two sons: Michael W. LeCates of Delmar and Norval W. LeCates Jr. also of Delmar; four granddaughters: Stephanie LeCates of Laurel, Kim Willey of Ocean City, Md., Pamela Moore of Lincoln and Michelle Phillips of Georgetown; a grandson, Jason Nibblett of Delmar; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; four nieces; and seven cousins.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 1, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will follow the services at Line United Methodist Church Cemetery, 33961 E. Line Road, Delmar.

Memorial contributions may be made to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, to assist in defraying funeral expenses.
