Attentive Care Earns Santana a DAISY Award

January 9, 2024

Jasmine Santana, RN, cares for patients at the Bayhealth Kent Campus and has been awarded a DAISY Award for Staff Nurse.

The DAISY Award is a “thank you” to extraordinary nurses. This program recognizes nurses who show compassion and determination through the care they provide. The DAISY Award honors the super-human work that nurses everywhere do for their patients along with their families.

The DAISY Award is given by the DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes Family wanted to recognize the nurses who cared for Patrick and all the other “unsung heroes” of the nursing profession.

When a situation called for swiftness and skill, Santana delivered. While working in the Labor and Delivery Unit, Santana was met with a postpartum case that required extra help and immediate attention. Without hesitation, Santana began working with other postpartum RNs to move the case to the operating room without any delays. Santana continued to nurse her patient through recovery. “I witnessed her gentle and sensitive bedside manner, and the words she spoke through the translator service were as compassionate as her physical presence,” stated Santana’s nominator.

“Jasmine helped save the patient's life. She was the key player, the one who helped avert a potentially catastrophic event and made a challenge seem routine. Under pressure, she was calm and confident and helped educate other postpartum nurses,” Santana’s nominator concluded.

DAISY Award honorees are chosen by nurses, administrators, peers, physicians, volunteers, patients, and families. If you know a Bayhealth nurse who deserves to be nominated, visit Bayhealth.org/DAISY and fill out the nomination form.
