‘Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee’

June 9, 2016

Such sad news this week that the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali passed away after an amazingly long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was diagnosed 32 years ago after his incredibly long 21 year boxing career was over. I actually have a slight connection to him as Ali was an Olympian back in 1960 before he could turn professional as a boxer. In 1996, I was given the honor of being one of the torch bearers for the '96 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Ali was the torchbearer chosen to light the Olympic flame in the opening ceremony.

I have a book which has the names of all of the torchbearers who carried the torch throughout that journey across the United States. This book includes the famous photo of him lighting the flame. That experience of my short "run" with the torch when I was finishing 6th grade as a new kid here carries great memories!

I hope the latter half of the NBA Finals turns out to be closer than the first three games. In the first two games, the defending champions, Golden State Warriors, completely dominated on their home court. In game two they won by 30 points! When the series went back to Cleveland, the Cavaliers turned the tables on the Warriors. Everyone expected this series to be a whole lot closer. I sure hope the rest of the games turn out to be that way.

This could turn out to be a very important week in the Philadelphia Phillies’ attempt to rebuild. I don't usually watch the Major League Baseball draft because you know very few players names before they're drafted. I plan to watch the first ten minutes since the Phillies have first pick this year. The only reason they have first pick is because they had the worst record last year! Hopefully in the next few years the Phillies will not be drafting anywhere close to the first pick.
