Editor’s note: Due to rain, the roadside portion was cancelled and will be rescheduled.
The 2nd Annual Roadside litter pick-up will be held in celebration of Earth Day 2017 Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. Over 200 volunteers have signed up to work in partnership with Waste Industries to perform a roadside litter clean-up for targeted areas throughout the Lewes, Rehoboth, Millsboro and Milton areas.
Residents from the communities of Lewes Crossing, Bay Point, Oak Crest Farms, The Reserves at Lewes Landing, Angola by the Bay, The Ridings, Independence, Stonewater Creek, The Villages at Herring Creek, Heron Bay, and "friends of the Earth" will be removing trash, litter and other garbage on selective roads throughout Eastern Sussex County.
The group, organized in 2016 by local residents, was supported by JD Shuckers, and Waste Industries, which obtained additional sponsors such as Hyatt Place, Rehrig Pacific, LogoMotive, Halo, Bethany Blues, JD Shuckers, Dorman's Donuts, Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding, Oceanic Interiors, Atlantic Liquors and The Atkins Team. Volunteers are provided with bags, shirts, vests and a hearty lunch following their morning’s efforts.
Last year 1.95 tons of trash were collected and it's anticipated that that number could easily double. For additional information contact Kristy Chmelewski at 302-934-1364 or 302-569-4484.
