Amelia Earhart disappearance will be museum program topic March 9

March 3, 2024

The Milford Museum will continue its American History Series with a lecture to mark Women’s History Month, “The Disappearance of Amelia Earhart.” Presented by author and historian Ric Gillespie, the program will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at Milford Public Library, 11 SE Front St., Milford.

In the 87 years since her mysterious disappearance, Earhart has become an American icon, but what's the truth behind the legend? Gillespie will present a preview of his new book, “One More Good Flight: The Amelia Earhart Tragedy,” soon to be published by the Naval Institute Press. In his talk, Gillespie will correct many common myths and misconceptions about the famous flyer and lay out the evidence of her true fate discovered in 34 years of scientific investigation by the International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery.

TIGHAR’s investigation of the Earhart disappearance was launched in 1988. Its 12 expeditions to the South Pacific have been the subject of multiple television documentaries. Gillespie’s first book, “Finding Amelia: The True Story of the Earhart Disappearance,” was the Naval Institute Press top seller in 2007.

Sponsored by the Milford Museum, these monthly programs focus on a variety of topics concerning local, state and national history.
