Athletes of the Week Feb. 24

February 24, 2017

Sarah Hyde
You would think having three state titles in lacrosse and a state championship in swimming was enough, but not for this Cape senior. "I'm hoping to finish my high school swimming career with my best friends standing on the podium on Saturday," she said. Besides being the first seed in the 200 medley and free relay, she is also seeded fourth in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 50 freestyle. Along with the other Fab Four, Sarah has never lost a dual meet in the Henlopen Conference. Sarah is the secretary for the Cape Honor Society and a member of the Leo Club. When not in the pool, she volunteers at Beebe Healthcare in the Same Day Surgery department. She will join her teammate Amelia in the nursing program at UD.

Amelia Nigh-Johnson
A senior honors student at Cape, Amelia has had a long, distinguished career in the pool for the Vikings. She is in the finals of the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay at Saturday's DIAA Swimming Championships at the University of Delaware. She will also swim the consolation finals of the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. A four-time conference champ, she ended the 2015-16 season with the state championship medal in the 200 free relay and hopes to repeat this year. "I'm excited to end the season in the states, especially after my shoulder injury to start the season," she said. A volunteer in the Beebe Healthcare Labor and Delivery department, Amelia will attend the nursing program at the University of Delaware in the fall.

Sarah Rambo
This member of the Cape Fab Four has four conference titles and one 200 free relay state championship. She will be swimming the medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay Saturday at UD, but will also swim the consolation round of the 100 backstroke. A tough defensive player on the Cape lacrosse team, Sarah came back from ACL and meniscus surgery last season to swim for the Lady Vikings her final year. "I'm happy with how far we've come in the past four years," she said. Sarah is the president of the Cape Henlopen Honor Society, a member of the Leo Club and Green Club, and participates in the Science Olympiad. She has been accepted at the University of Virginia, but is awaiting word from UCLA and Berkeley. She will study engineering.

Molly Weeks
The pool at the Sussex Family YMCA has been a second home for this Cape senior honors and Advanced Placement student for the past 10 years. Molly has won four straight conference titles for the Vikings, and she hopes to repeat last year's state championship with the Fab Four in the 200 freestyle relay and pick up an extra one in the medley relay. "I'm so thankful that we had each other for the past four years," she said. "I love my teammates." She is also seeded fourth in the 100 butterfly and second in the 100 backstroke. A member of the Honor Society, Green Club and Leo Club at Cape, she will be swimming for the University of South Carolina in the fall, where she will major in business. Her high school career doesn't end on Saturday, as she will swim in a national meet in April in Greensboro, N.C.
