Cardin Benjamin
This recent Cape grad played his final high school soccer game June 11, representing the Vikings in the Blue-Gold All-Star Game at Caravel Academy. It is rather fitting that a player with Cardin’s speed and quickness will call himself a member of the Goldey-Beacom Lightning this fall, and the future Division II player showcased that skill set with the first goal of the contest. Cardin is set to room with Sussex Academy graduate Andres Romero-Nieto this fall in Wilmington and will join Caesar Rodney's Trevor Sullivan and Indian River's Dom Delaney to give Goldey-Beacom four incoming freshmen from the Henlopen Conference. Despite Gold's 4-3 loss, Cardin’s leadership remained constant throughout the star-studded affair. He said playing with high-quality players made life a bit easier on the pitch.
Ava Calciano
Ava wrapped up her illustrious high school softball career by earning MVP honors for the Gold team in the Blue-Gold Softball All-Star Game June 10. Although her squad lost, the future University of Connecticut Huskie smashed two home runs, including a three-run shot on her final at-bat. Her teammates, Alivia Heers and Hayden Hudson, also went yard with their last swings as the Gold team nearly came back from down 10, losing 14-10. Prior to the game, Ava displayed her defensive prowess in a skills competition before flashing her speed in the relay race that gave Gold the 3-2 win in the mini-games. Ava is well-rounded in all of her skills, but her framing of the strike zone may be her most impressive attribute. Rarely does she panic if she ever gets two strikes on her.
Burke Healy
This 2025 Cape grad had a great showing in his final game June 10, in the Delaware Lacrosse Foundation's Senior All-Star Game at DE Turf, hitting for four goals and an assist. "Burke was an absolute warrior for us this season," said Cape coach Geoff Shupard. "He's a great leader, a great player and a great person." In 2025, he garnered honors as first-team all-conference, first-team all-state, All-American and was a Crown Trophy Academic Award winner. He was also presented with the Scott Brozey Lead by Example Memorial Scholarship. Burke will continue his lacrosse career at Catholic University. He serves his community as a Dewey Beach Patrol member during the summer months. In his spare time, he loves surfing, skiing, and hanging out with his friends and two brothers.

A track standout for the Sussex Riptide squad, Deshawn was chosen as the Special Olympics Delaware 2025 Outstanding Athlete of the Year. The 25-year-old has the honor of being the athlete chosen to light the cauldron at the opening ceremony of the Summer Games Friday, June 13, at the Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware in Newark. A sprinter for the Sussex Riptide, Deshawn runs the 100, 200, 400 meters and the sprint medleys. "I feel so honored to light the cauldron," said Deshawn.
