Athletes of the Week March 16

March 16, 2018
Taylor Gooch

A redshirt sophomore defender for the Temple University Owls women’s lacrosse team, Taylor is the noticeably faster-than-most athlete on the field filled with fast people. “Run, Taylor, run” can be heard from the stands at the Temple Sports Complex when the ball is in her stick, just like at Champions Stadium when she played for Cape and was a three-time first-team all-state player and an All-American her senior year. Taylor ruptured her Achilles tendon in the fall of her freshman year, putting her out of action for a calendar year. She saw action in 13 games last season and has been named to the athletic director’s honor roll four straight semesters as she majors in health professions. Taylor is a legit Division I lacrosse defender who can throw and catch it, and if she starts to run, don’t bother chasing her.

Kat Judge

Kat was lacrosse Player of the Year her senior year at Cape and a double all-state performer in field hockey and lacrosse. When she goes game face, know your place and stay out of her personal space. The same applies to older sister Caroline, and Annie, the youngest Judge. Kat is now a senior for the Winthrop College Eagles. She was first-team All-Big South her junior year with 46 goals and 107 draw controls to go with 50 ground balls and 38 forced turnovers. Kat is a perpetual motion mean machine out on the pitch. This season through seven games she has 20 goals and 40 draw controls, leading the Big South. Kat is a dean’s list student who’s majoring in social work.

Kristen Shriver

A senior for the Winthrop Eagles Division I women’s lacrosse team, Kristen played her high school years for the Worcester Prep Mallards, which currently have a half-dozen athletes playing Division I college lacrosse. She’s a teammate and classmate of Kat Judge and Allie Yeager. Kristen played soccer, basketball and lacrosse in high school and was the Daily Times Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2014. She is seeking a degree in business. This season through seven games, Kristen has nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points - her game is production - and she now belongs to the 100 goals and assists club at Winthrop. She also has 20 draw controls and 19 forced turnovers. Kristen is forever a Fighting Mallard.

Allie Yeager

“Kate & Allie” was a TV show back in the day, but in the Cape Region, Kat and Allie means Judge and Yeager. Back since middle school at Beacon, these two friends have been winning games, breaking hearts and putting state championship trophies for field hockey and lacrosse in the Fred Harvey bus. Allie missed seven games for the Division I Winthrop Eagles lacrosse team due to injury her junior year and still scored 11 goals in 12 games and had a career total of 60 entering her senior season. Allie has 10 goals and eight forced turnovers along with five ground balls for the 4-3 Eagles of the Big South Conference. Allie is pursuing a degree in elementary education, and she will make a great teacher for certain.
