Autumn Shores Getaway highlights natural beauty of Delaware Seashore State Park Nov. 18-20

September 30, 2016

Delaware Seashore State Park, just south of Rehoboth Beach, is once again offering an exclusive weekend getaway package this fall. The Autumn Shores Getaway is back by popular demand, and will include a variety of programs, several meals and the option of a discounted rate for a two-night stay at the beautiful, waterfront cottages positioned along the Indian River Inlet.

The weekend will focus on the natural beauty of Delaware's coast in the fall, something many summertime visitors do not get the opportunity to experience. The weekend will kick off Friday evening with a guided night hike over the Charles W. Cullen bridge and a beach bonfire just a short walk from the cottages. In the morning on Saturday, participants will enjoy a guided hike of Burton Island Nature Preserve, also near the cottages. A park naturalist will lead the group, explaining the history of the island and identifying wildlife along the way.

After leaving Burton Island, the group will travel across Indian River Bay via pontoon boat to the lesser-known Holts Landing State Park. While at the park, participants will hike the Sea Hawk Trail which meanders through intertidal, marsh, meadow and maritime forest habitats. After the hike, the group will travel to a local restaurant for lunch. Once the boat returns everyone to the Indian River Marina, park naturalists will lead an indoor Make-Your-Own Walking Stick craft program.

On Sunday, participants will finish up the weekend with a one-hour bike tour of Fort Miles (bikes provided) and a guided hike on the Gordons Pond Trail at Cape Henlopen State Park. The fee for the Autumn Shores Getaway is $165 per person and includes all activities, boat and bus transportation, two breakfasts and one lunch. For out-of-towners, there is an option of a discounted stay at the Indian River Marina cottages. This package is recommended for ages 12 and up.
