Beacon basketball teams beat visiting Selbyville

January 13, 2017

Middle school basketball features young players in an old-school setting. Late-afternoon games played in multipurpose gyms like Beacon and Mariner with a stage at one end and plenty of grandparents in the stands who are still nimble enough to negotiate bleachers. Teachers and their colleagues coach up the kids, and some legendary coaches like Bud Hitchens at Beacon return to help because they miss it all but not enough to be the head coach.

Selbyville at Beacon Jan. 11 saw the Beacon girls improve to 4-1 with a 38-18 win, while the Beacon boys came from behind to win going away 36-27 to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Cape high school coaches Lauren Carra and Steve Re were in the stands just checking out the talent pool.

Beacon next plays at Chipman Friday, Jan. 13.
