Beginning drawing class set at Milton Arts Guild Aug. 17

July 28, 2016

The Milton Arts Guild will present the MAG Artful Touch, The Art of Graphite, Beginning Drawing class led by Anne Buck at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17.

To learn how to draw, one must first learn to look without preconceptions. In this class, attendees will practice this artist instructor’s way of looking and drawing from observation, and experiment with a number of drawing techniques that have been used by artists over the centuries. This class is geared toward beginners, but is suitable for those who wish to refresh their drawing skills or just need a class or assignment to get them going.

Attendees will be shown how to construct an appealing composition using some simple rules and will do some fun drawing exercises to unlock inner creativity and more. They will learn to draw in easy steps beginning with basic shapes and applying value or shading to create three-dimensional images. They’ll discuss the materials used such as pencil gradation, paper weights and textures, knead erasers and blending tools. Drawing is a basic skill for all art.

Buck is currently a watercolorist. Design and creativity have been infused in her education with a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture and landscape design, and a master’s degree in biology education. In her working career she used her design and drawing skills as a conservationist for erosion and sediment control, designing conservation practices such as waterways, ditches and ponds. She is a member of the Delaware Watercolor Society, the Rehoboth Art League, Millsboro Art League and is the vice president of the Milton Art Guild, all in Delaware. For more information and to see her work, go to www.annebuck.com.

The class runs approximately two hours, and the cost is $35 per student in advance and $40 at the door.
