Bishop Koenig to celebrate masses at downstate churches Dec. 24-25

The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington has announced Bishop William E. Koenig’s Christmas schedule. This will be his first Christmas as shepherd of the more than 240,000 Catholics who live in Delaware and on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Koenig will preside at the 4 p.m. Christmas Vigil Mass Friday, Dec. 24, at the Church of the Holy Cross, 631 South State St., Dover. At 8 p.m., he will preside at the Christmas Eve liturgy with parishioners at Mary, Mother of Peace, 30839 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro.

Koenig will celebrate the Nativity of the Lord at the 8:30 a.m. Mass Christmas Day, Saturday, Dec. 25, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive in Lewes, then join parishioners for the 11 a.m. Mass at St. John the Apostle Church, 506 Seabury Ave., Milford.

The Holy See announced April 30 that Pope Francis had appointed Koenig as bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, succeeding Bishop Malool. Koenig was ordained a bishop and installed July 13 as the 10th Bishop of Wilmington.

The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington was established in 1868 and comprises 56 parishes, 18 missions and 27 schools serving Delaware and the nine counties of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Information about the diocese is available at cdow.org.
