Cadbury at Lewes residents release monarch butterflies

July 25, 2017

Cadbury at Lewes residents released hundreds of monarch butterflies during a July 14 ceremony to remember those who are no longer living. Cadbury at Lewes has a pollinator-friendly garden with black-eyed Susans, coneflowers and Joe Pye weed among other native flowering plants.

Before the release, residents dined al fresco and played shuffleboard before joining family and friends for the celebration. Monarchs are shipped on ice to keep them dormant, then brought to room temperature the hour before release.

Jean Carpenter spent an anxious day making sure they would be ready for the event on Friday.
