Cape baseball handles the Dogs 10-0

April 18, 2024

The Cape baseball team plated nine runs in the second inning en route to a 10-0 six-inning shutout of the visiting Laurel Bulldogs April 16 at Chris Short Field. The Vikings move to 10-0, while the Bulldogs are 2-5.

“Reed [Thompson] took charge early on the mound, and we put up nine runs to help him out in the second inning,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “This allowed us to make mass substitutions and give everyone some work. Reed threw three strong innings, Chase Resnick pitched a scoreless fourth and Jack Simeone threw two scoreless innings to secure the shutout. We had multiple guys with multiple hits that kept the offense rolling. We’re starting to swing the bats really well top to bottom, and pitching continues to be strong.”

Jaxon Clampitt, Gage Joseph and Brady Kosc delivered at the plate with two hits each. Lex Wescott slammed a triple and collected an RBI. Jase Mitchell knocked in three runs with a double in the second inning. Trey Hitchcock drove in a run.

The Vikings continue to be thieves on the base paths, as Isaac Terhune, Aaden Johnson, Clampitt and Wescott each stole a base.
