Cape girls’ basketball loses to Ravens

Vikings fall to 8-9
February 13, 2018

The Sussex Tech girls’ basketball team started out on fire against visiting Cape, and the Vikings could not put out the flames, as the Ravens put a 62-36 victory in the books in the Northern Division rivalry.

The Ravens took a commanding 39-17 lead into the halftime break. They continued the pressure in the second half despite a fourth-period flurry from the Vikings.

Mi'Cah Shelton scored 16 points and Janiya Stevens added 14 to lead the Ravens.

Sydney Pedersen scored seven points for the Vikings, with teammates Dania Cannon and Mallory Jones each adding six.

“We let another opportunity slip away in this game,” said Cape coach Lauren Carra. “As we have seen in the last several games, we continue to struggle with handling a team’s pressure to the point we don't play the way we are capable of playing. Moving forward, we are going to see the same kind of pressure. Our guards have to do a better job at handling the basketball in those situations.”

Sussex Tech will head to Caesar Rodney Tuesday, Feb. 13, for a Northern Division battle. Cape will travel to Dover Tuesday, Feb. 13, and St. Georges Tech Friday, Feb. 16.
