Cape field hockey improved its record to 8-1 at the midway point of the season with a 7-0 shutout win at Caesar Rodney.

The Vikings unloaded 25 shots on the Riders’ goal cage along with 19 penalty corners.

Grace Wiggins and Addy Basile each had a pair of goals, while Macy Steinwedel, Mairead Rishko and Alysa McCarthy each scored once.

Caesar Rodney goalie Abigail Peppard recorded 10 saves, while teammate Temperance Haupt collected seven.

The Riders dropped to 4-3 on the season.

Cape will play at Sussex Academy at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10. The Seahawks are 5-3 on the season.

Coach Kate Austin said the team is trying to put together forward lines who can work well together, as well as different options on defense to give teams a different look. “Our focus right now is on competing at a high level each day at practice and carrying that over to game days,” she said. “We want the team processing information throughout the game more and communicating on the field, rather than waiting until quarter breaks and halftime to get back on the same page.”
