Cape softball falls to Delmar 13-6
Cape was up 6-3 heading into the top of the fifth inning when the clowder of Wildcats broke the game open by scoring four in the fifth and sixth, and two in the seventh to end the Vikings’ injury-ridden season 13-6.
The Vikings were without starters Chloe Fluharty, Gianna Vayda, Kelsey Huling, Savannah Reed, Sydney Doel and Raegan Jackson, but they did put a scare into the Wildcats by scoring two in the third and four in the fourth innings.
Kaniah James and Haley Rauch each went 2-for-4, while Rye Elliott batted 2-for-3. Rauch knocked in two runs, while James and Kaeli O'Neill-Willey each had one RBI.
Marissa Frederick and Mackenzie Irelan each had a hit in the game. Haley Biddinger became a base runner for the Lady Vikings when she was hit by a pitch.
Frederick took the loss, giving up 12 runs, of which three were earned, on 11 hits. She struck out four Delmar batters, while giving up three bases on balls.
The Vikings celebrated Senior Night by honoring their only senior, Raegan Jackson, who has been out of the lineup since the March 28 Lake Forest game, when a collision at home had her airlifted to Christiana Medical Center with a back injury.
