Cape girls’ tennis second-year coach Laurie Carter is looking to improve on her 9-5 record of 2016 by adding new talent to replace graduates Anna Steiner, Marissa McCloy and Allyssa Mousley.

Returning for the Lady Vikings are Maryann Tietbohl, Melanie McCloy and Alyssa Spell, who will be challenging for the top three singles spots. “We are going to have a good team this year,” said Carter. “There will definitely be some intense challenges for the seven spots on the varsity team.”

The Cape girls will open their regular season Wednesday, March 22, at home with Caesar Rodney.

On the boys’ side, coach Maryanne Cardillo returns senior Tyler Arnwine-Justiniani at first singles and looks to improve on the 2016 campaign’s 7-7 record. Challenging for the second and third singles spots are Ben Conrad and Noah Brozefsky. Returning players trying for the doubles positions are Chase Toback, Henry Clampitt, Harrison Gale, Matt Libby, Hunter Osborne, Matt Gille and Josh Toback. The boys’ team also has nine freshmen out for the squad.

“It’s going to be a challenging season,” said Cardillo, “We are only returning three varsity players, but we also have quite a few young players trying to make their presence known on the team.”

The boys’ squad will open the regular season Wednesday, March 22, at Caesar Rodney.
