Cape theatre students spread holiday cheer across state

January 1, 2017

Students from the Cape Henlopen High School Theatre Academy continued their annual tradition of spreading holiday cheer. "There are so many wonderful celebrations of theatre and music at this time of year, but it's not always easy for some people to get out," says Martha Pfeiffer, director of the Cape Theatre Academy. For this reason, the Cape theatre kids take their show on the road.

For the past seven years, Pfeiffer and her crew have brought their musical cabaret to the residents of Brandywine and Cadbury assisted living centers. "Of all of the experiences our students have during their time in the theatre program, these visits are always the ones they treasure the most," says Pfeiffer.

Several years ago, Pfeiffer and her students began to travel upstate to entertain families at A.I. duPont Children's Hospital. This, by far, has had the most lasting impact on all those involved. "When we see the courage of these kids and their families, and what they are facing with such dignity, it truly makes our problems seem inconsequential," says Pfeiffer. "When we can witness firsthand the incredible healing power of the theatre, we are filled with such gratitude that we are in a position to make people's lives just a little bit brighter."
