Cape wrestling tames Polytech Panthers 52-18

Mat battles scheduled to escalate over the next week

Cape wrestling won 10 of 14 bouts at Polytech Jan. 8 en route to a 52-18 team victory. 

The Vikings recorded seven pins in the match: 106, Austin Guerrieri (2:30); 113, Cale Baker (3:10); 126, Tripp Gannon (105); 132, Max Meadows (1:00); 138, Owen Mattioni (5:10); 150, Nick Walker (1:00); and 157, Brady Cole (3:13). 

Cape also got wins at 165 from Hayden Wheeler 14-0 over Israel Russell; 175 by Jeffrey Rainer 6-1 over Luke Murphy; and 190 from Luke Arnold-Decyk 6-1 over Aiden Durham. 

Polytech’s four wins came at 120, Evan Rosenwold by pin over Hudson Senard (1:50); 144, Tyler Rosen 7-4 over Colin Poulis; 215, Dionysus Alston by pin over David Citro (1:01);  and 285, Navain Cooper 2-1 over Tyler Costello.

The Vikings’ regular 215-pound grappler Patrick Donahue sat out the meet with a minor injury. Costello lost in the final second on a stalling call. 

Cape will wrestle in the Panther Invitational at Paint Branch High School in Maryland over the weekend. 

The Vikings will roll into a tough week beginning Wednesday, Jan. 17, when they host Smyrna, then travel to Delaware Military Academy Friday, Jan. 19, before hosting Red Lion Christian Monday, Jan. 22.
