Carmela J. Russo, enjoyed opera

Carmela J. Russo, 90 of Long Neck peacefully passed Saturday, March 3, 2018, at home surrounded by family after a brief illness. Carmela was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Joseph and D'Andrea Benedetta Montaperto.

Carmela taught for many years in the public schools of New York City in Brooklyn. After teaching Carmela went to work at Astoria Saving Bank for a number of years. After her second retirement, Carmela and her husband Jack decided to move and make Delaware their new home. Millie was an avid reader, an animal lover and enjoyed Italian opera. She was a faithful “Jeopardy”' arm chair contestant and found great joy in shopping. Millie and her husband, Jack, hosted spectacular traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinners to family and friends for years when living in Brooklyn.

Her survivors include two sons, Vito and Kerry Russo of Lewes, and Jack and Patricia Russo of New York; three grandchildren; and three great-grand-children
Burial will be Thursday March 8, at noon, at St Charles Resurrection Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale, N.Y.
Donations may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Fund and Delaware Hospice in lieu of flowers.
