Castle and Stevenson to be recognized Sept. 15 as Delaware History Makers

The Delaware Historical Society’s Ninth Annual Delaware History Makers Award dinner will take place at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington. The Hon. Michael N. Castle and Bryan Stevenson, Esq. will be honored for their leadership and many years of public service. A reception begins at 5:30 p.m.

Castle, a native of Wilmington, is a longtime Delaware political leader who served as the governor of Delaware for two terms and as a U.S. congressman for nine terms. Castle is well known for working across party lines and building bridges to arrive at pragmatic, bipartisan solutions to critical issues facing individuals and government leaders today.

Stevenson, a native of Milton, is a widely acclaimed public interest attorney and founder of the nonprofit Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Ala. Stevenson has won numerous awards for his work including a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and the ACLU National Medal of Liberty. He was recently awarded a Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction for his New York Times bestseller, "Just Mercy." Stevenson’s 2012 TED talk, "We Need to Talk about an Injustice," is one of TED’s most talked-about lectures.
