Celebrating the nurses of 3 Hudson Orthopaedic

November 23, 2016

Robert Waizenegger, a retired New York City cop, says the best thing someone in law enforcement can say about you is that you're a "good cop." It means that you're a stand-up guy, honest and straightforward, and tell it like it is. Robert Waizenegger is a "good cop."

His experience at Beebe Healthcare after recent knee replacement surgery by Dr. Joseph Farrell highlights Bob's take on life – tell it like it is and talk openly. Just like his doctor did before surgery. "Dr. Farrell laid it all out and told me exactly what to expect," Bob said.

"The nurses were great. They were competent, did their job and took great care of me." That was high praise from Bob. But then again, Bob says that cops gravitate toward nurses – they're kindred spirits. He especially loved Jennifer Ricker and Mary Mohan. They got him up right away and got him moving – and he's still waiting for the pain; he never had any. "Those girls sure know how to treat someone," he was heard to say.

Beebe's Joint Replacement prep classes also helped him prepare and set expectations for recovery. The last time Bob was in the hospital was 1935 – the day he was born. So for him, a hospital stay was really out of the ordinary. The prep classes were important in helping him set expectations for recovery.

It was also important that Bob get back in his garden – which he has done. At eight weeks post op, Bob was out in the garden after a recent nor'easter, removing a fallen tree with a chain saw and hauling it off to the dump. "I've got to clean my garden out in the next couple of weeks, rake leaves and get it ready for next year," he said. Golf also awaits. "I miss playing golf. I play for fun, but my goal is to get ready for the golf tournament at our family reunion in July."

Bob has generously donated to the Celebrate Excellent Care program to recognize the superior care given to him during his stay. He directed his gift to support Beebe Healthcare's Orthopaedic and Home Care Services.

"Thank you very much to all of the staff,” he said. “They did their job to the best of their ability and they made me feel comfortable. What more can you ask for?"

Indeed, Bob – high praise from a "good cop."
