The Sussex Central Golden Knights football squad started out slow and could not get on track, as they fell 12-7 to William Penn in the opening round of the DIAA Division I Football Tournament Nov. 17 in Georgetown.
Each team took a quarter to size up the other before the Colonials got on the scoreboard with a 58-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Gaynor. The two-point conversion failed. William Penn went into the halftime break up 6-0.
The third quarter saw the Colonials scoring on a 28-yard pass play from quarterback Noah Ogbin. The two-point conversion failed again.
Central did get on the board in the fourth on a two-yard run by Drew Morris. Kade Bullock drilled the PAT to bring the Knights to within five.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
