Tech season ends at 9-5-2
May 24, 2018

The Charter School’s Sophia Gulotti scored the game’s only goal at the 36-minute mark as the Force downed Sussex Tech 1-0 May 23 in the first round of the DIAA state tournament.

The Force got off 22 shots in the contest, while the Ravens took 10. Tech keeper Val Whealton made 12 saves, while Force goalie Gabby Simmons stopped 10 attempts. The Force took five corners to the Ravens’ three.

“We started off a little shaky,” said Sussex Tech head coach Carlos Villa. “We changed things up in the second half and had our chances on goal.”

The Force had Lady Luck on their side in the second half, as the Ravens hit the post on a hard shot.

“We just don’t give up,” Villa said. “These girls are positive, and they never stopped. They are true warriors. Wilmington is a good team, and it could have gone either way.”

Charter will face Caesar Rodney in the semifinal game Wednesday, May 30, after the Riders’ 4-1 victory over William Penn.
