August 18, 2017

Coastal Concerts committee members will take part in a free Musical Perspectives program at 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, 520 Dupont Ave., Lewes. They will take an in-depth look at four of the upcoming season's offerings. Musical Perspectives programs include presentations and audience questions, and they are intended to make classical music more accessible and enjoyable by enhancing audience members' listening skills.

ZOFO, shorthand for 20-finger orchestra (ZO = 20 and FO = finger orchestra), will open the 2017-18 season Saturday, Oct. 21, with internationally acclaimed solo pianists Eva Maria Zimmermann and Keisuke Nakagoshi bringing their dazzling artistry and outside-the-box thematic programming to Lewes. Dan Crampton will explore the technical challenges confronting the ensemble, as well as the repertoire for piano-four-hands.

The Akropolis Reed Quintet will perform Saturday, Nov. 18, and take listeners on extraordinary musical adventures. Don Matzkin will profile the ensemble. Since its founding at the University of Michigan in 2009, the quintet has won six national chamber music prizes, including the 2014 Fischoff Gold Medal, delivering to a multi-generational audience passionate, energized and unforgettable performances.

Founded in 1934, the Smetana Trio quickly established the interpretational ideals aspired to by their contemporaries and adhered to by their current successors. The trio's Coastal Concert will be Saturday, Feb. 24. Gavin Braithwaite will lead the discussion of this engaging repertoire.

Roman Pawlowski will illustrate how Sō Percussion, with innovative multi-genre original productions and sensational interpretations of modern classics, has redefined the scope and vital role of the modern percussion ensemble. Sō Percussion will perform this season's Wild Card Concert Saturday, April 24.

Ticket sales for both the regular-season performances and the Wild Card have been brisk, and the early-bird $5 per ticket discount expires Friday, Sept. 15. For more information, go to www.coastalconcerts.org or call 1-888-212-6458.
