Becker Morgan awarded for excellence in design 

Becker Morgan Group recently received an honor award in the Non-Residential New Construction Category from the American Institute of Architects Chesapeake Bay Chapter for its design of the Wor-Wic Community College Patricia and Alan Guerrieri Technology Center in Salisbury, Md. The firm received this award at the 2023 Excellence in Design Awards Celebration held in Easton, Md. 

The Guerrieri Technology Center provides the latest in learning technologies to prepare students for the workforce. It features welding, HVACR, metal fabrication and plumbing labs; a CDL simulation lab; and other hands-on instruction areas for electromechanical, construction, electrical and alternative energy programs. For the community, a makerspace multipurpose laboratory has tools and 3D printers available for public use.

Christmas Nativity celebration set Dec. 16

Trinity Faith Christian Center invites the public to attend a Christmas Nativity dramatic musical presentation at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, at 15516 New Road, Lewes.

Cookie walk set Dec. 16 at St. Peter’s

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will hold its annual Cookie Walk from 8:30 to 11 a.m. or until sold out Saturday, Dec. 16, at Second and Market sts., Lewes. Cost is $10 for a small box of self-selected cookies or $15 for a large box. Cash and checks will be accepted.

Shoppers will enter the parish hall though the church courtyard at Second and Market streets. Mask wearing is suggested. Only 25 people will be admitted at any one time and provided with plastic gloves to browse and self-select from the tables. For details, go to stpeterslewes.org.

Conley’s Church Christmas season events start Dec. 17

Conley’s Christmas Cantata, Home for Christmas, will be performed during the 10 a.m. worship service, Sunday, Dec. 17, at Conley’s Church. Attendees will hear the sweetest music this side of heaven.

Candlelight Christmas Eve services will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 24, at Conley’s Church, 33106 Jolyns Way, Lewes, and at 8 p.m. at Conley’s Chapel, 22150 Robinsonville Road, Lewes.

There will also be a regular Sunday morning service at 10 a.m., Dec 24, at Conley’s Church.

Epworth soup sale and cookie walk set Dec. 16

Just in time for the busy holiday season, The Kitchen at Epworth is offering four types of homemade soup for sale. Soup varieties include chicken noodle, vegetable beef and vegetarian lentil at $10 per quart; and red crab soup at $15 per quart. Proceeds from sales support Epworth's mission and ministries. The soup sale coincides with Epworth’s cookie walk, and both events begin at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, and continue while supplies last. Epworth is located at 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach.

Genealogical society to meet Dec. 16

The Sussex County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, at Lewes Public Library and via Zoom. All are welcome; to request a Zoom invitation, email programs@scgsdelaware.org.

The meeting will include the annual sharing of members’ family artifacts and stories, and a party to celebrate the holidays. Everyone is welcome.

Delaware Master Naturalist open house set Dec. 17

The Delaware Master Naturalist Program connects adults to the environment and one another to maximize their impact through volunteering and community projects. Registration for the 2024 cohort is open. Open houses will be held Sunday, Dec. 17, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. online, and in person from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Lewes Public Library. Milton students to decorate holiday trees Dec. 17

Three live Norway spruce trees will don their holiday best when students from Mariner Middle School, H.O. Brittingham Elementary School and Milton Elementary School cover them with handmade holiday ornaments at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 17, at Mill Park, 114 Mulberry St., Milton. The family-friendly decorating party will include hot chocolate and treats compliments of SipUrban Farmhouse, and holiday music supplied by Jeff Evans. The display of the three trees is part of a public art initiative of the Milton Economic Development Commission. It is sponsored by i.g. Burton Auto Group and The Nitan Soni Group at Northrop Realty, with support from Wyoming Millwork and Ace Hardware, Milton.

Barry Goodinson, committee chair, said the trees are balled and burlapped, and will be relocated to the Rails to Trails after the exhibit closes. 

Editor’s note - The exhibit opening has been postponed from its original date of Dec. 10 to Dec. 17 according to a notice issued Dec. 8 by the Milton Economic Development Commission.

UUSD to meet Dec. 17

The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will hold an in-person and livestreamed service at 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 17, presenting “A Tiny Miracle.”

Julie Keefer, director of music ministries, UUSD choir and children, said, “The UUSD choir, children and others will be sharing ‘A Tiny Miracle.’ It is a family holiday musical about faith and finding your purpose. Come and meet Little Tree, who feels unloved and unwanted. When she asks, ‘What’s wrong with me?’ the Wise Oak reassures her, ‘It takes time to see what kind of miracle you were meant to be.’” For information, go to uussd.org.

Encore Chorale sets seasonal concert Dec. 18

The Encore Chorale of Sussex County will present its seasonal concert from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 18, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach.

Encore is the nation’s largest choral arts organization for adults 55 and over, with more than 40 ensembles nationwide.

Louise Foster, formerly a music teacher for the Cape Henlopen School District, is the conductor of the Sussex County ensemble, which practices at the Lewes library.

Although free, tickets for the Dec. 18 performance are required. To reserve seats, go to eventbrite.com and search Encore Chorale of Sussex County.

14th RD Republicans to meet Dec. 19

The 14th Representative District Republican Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes. Featured speakers will be Kim Hoey Stevenson, GOP candidate for Delaware Senate District 6 in the upcoming 2024 election, and Valerie Jones Giltner, Delaware House of Representatives candidate for the 37th District’s special election Thursday,  Dec. 21.
