Crash damages headstones at Conley’s Chapel Cemetery

November 7, 2022

A crash Oct. 26 damaged gravestones at Conley’s Chapel Cemetery, but church officials are grateful to those who helped put them back together.

Louise Finn, cemetery coordinator for Conley’s Chapel, said a Facebook post following the crash alerted a Millsboro company, which helped restore the headstones.

“On Friday, a team from the church met to clean up the site and Brooke [Lloyd of Lloyd Monument Company] brought her crane truck. Within an hour, she had the headstones put back in place,” Finn said. “She was concerned for the families of the deceased and wanted to help us put things back together as quickly as possible. All at no charge.”

Finn also thanked Driscoll Drones for publishing an aerial picture of the site on Facebook. “This was one of those times that social media worked for a good outcome. We are very grateful to Driscoll Drones and Lloyd Monuments for helping us in our time of need,” she said.

Finn said the damage was caused by an uninsured motorist who drove a pickup truck onto the northwest corner of the cemetery at the intersection of Conley’s Chapel and Robinsonville roads. In addition to four headstones being damaged, Finn said a fire hydrant was broken off and the top portion of a power pole was damaged.
