Crooked Hammock Brewery eyes expansion

Middletown fits bill for second location
February 1, 2018

In less than three years, the Crooked Hammock has evolved from a small, family-friendly brewpub and restaurant in Lewes to a concept restaurant so marketable that management at La Vida Hospitality recently announced plans to expand.

Manager Ryan White said ownership has been eyeing locations for a new brewery in Middletown but is not yet 100 percent sure about any location.

"We have plans to expand and open in spring 2019," White said. "We have focused our search mostly on Middletown, so it is likely, but not yet definite."

All Crooked Hammock restaurants will feature a family-friendly backyard BBQ, he said, but until a location is selected, the hospitality group has no final plans for a menu or beer list.

"Any new establishment will have a brewery attached, so the idea is to brew certain beers at each location," White said.

Management also anticipates hosting community events and fundraisers, such as the ongoing Beers for Broadway fundraiser for Clear Space Theater. Community fundraisers will be an important aspect of any new Crooked Hammock locations in the future, White said.

"We raised money for a new library our first year with our Beers for Books fundraiser, and last year, Beers for Bravery donated 25 cents from every pint to our police officers, firefighters and ambulance crews," White said. "We'd like to continue these initiatives at all locations. It's your backyard beach escape."
