Crooked Hammock launches ‘Beers for Bravery’ with Half-Way to Summer Celebration Jan. 13-15

January 8, 2017

The team at Crooked Hammock Brewery has a number in mind for the men and women of Sussex County's 911 operations. "Our goal is $10,000," says Rich Garrahan, managing partner for Lewes' restaurant and brewery. "These responders are people who are dedicated to our community around the clock every day of the year.

“Being there for them these next three months is the very least we can do!"

Garrahan is referring to the three-month Beers for Bravery fundraising event which kicks off during the Hammock's Half Way to Summer weekend celebration, Friday through Sunday, Jan. 13-15.

Garrahan has pledged a donation of 25 cents from every beer purchased through March 31. Beers for Bravery will benefit three Sussex County emergency response organizations: Volunteer Firefighters Association, Ambulance Association and Police Chiefs’ Association.

"We were amazed by the outpouring of community support when we organized Beers for Books to support the Lewes Public Library last year," says Josh Grapski, managing partner of La Vida Hospitality.

His company oversees Crooked Hammock, now in its second year serving house made craft brews and backyard fare in what has become a Delaware destination for visitors and locals alike.

"We served over 24,000 pints to our guests to benefit the library. This is our way of giving back to our community, and we believe our $10,000 goal can be achieved for these dedicated men and women."

The weekend's Half-Way to Summer fundraising festivities include a silent auction and raffle, plus a $1 donation from every crush or summer cocktail.

In addition, the Hammock will be hosting some of Dewey Beach's favorite bartenders who are on board to support Beers for Bravery. On Saturday, Jan. 14, Highway One bartenders, including Peter Briccotto, will be in attendance with the Dewey Devil.

On Jan. 15, Nalu's Jimmy Young and Que Pasa's A.J. Borrero will be concocting his signature cocktails for a taste of summer, and a very good cause!

Also, during the Beers for Bravery event, all first responders who show their ID badge will receive 10 percent off their Crooked Hammock check through March 31.

Crooked Hammock Brewery, Restaurant and Backyard Beer Garden is open 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., seven days a week, year round, at 36707 Crooked Hammock Way just off Kings Highway, Lewes.
