Delaware Electric Vehicle Association holds open house in Rehoboth

September 27, 2016

The newly formed Delaware Electric Vehicle Association (DEEVA, not diva!) held its first event Sept. 18, promoting the benefits of electric vehicles: a ride and drive for the public to get acquainted with EVs. From noon to 5 p.m., the public could talk to the owners (not salesmen) about the EVs they own.

Charlie Garlow, Ppesident of DEEVA, showed off his Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. "I get about 80 miles to the gallon," said Garlow. Leslie Mostow showed off his Tesla Model S, recognized as the sexiest electric car around. "The performance is amazing, Mostow said, “but the technology is the coolest thing. You get updates to your vehicle on the fly, like some autonomous features, parallel parking, etc.”

Lynn Parsons brought her Nissan LEAF all electric car. Like the Tesla, the LEAF uses no gasoline. "My LEAF is a lot less expensive than the Tesla and it gets me wherever I need to go - on all electric power,” she said.

The event in Rehoboth Beach was held at Garlow's solar powered home at Fifth and Sussex, so Parsons and Mostow got the chance to charge up on solar power, meaning zero pollution. "We're doing our part to stop climate change and prevent any more sea level rise", said Parsons.

Galow, a U.S. Marine sergeant, said "and we don't have to spend so much on gasoline or send so many millions of dollars to OPEC nations who hate America."
